I’ve been having a look at a few food blogs, Instagram posts, tweets and recipes lately. Okay, yes, all the time if I’m honest. There seems to be a common thread which I’m starting to wonder about. A lot of these meals/recipes/shakes and “potions” seem to often have a “superfood” ingredient.
Mmm, let’s make a maca powder chia protein shake or a “green- powder” bowl with acai berries. Or maybe I could go for some coconut powder mixed with a scoop of protein in a high energy ball.

Why the fuss about chicken?

Someone told me that I should pretty much start this blog off with a joke.. there are so many and they are so bad! I had to settle for this one:

Q: “why did the chicken have to wash his mouth out with soap”
A: “because of all the fowl language”

Oh dear!

Jokes aside, chicken is such a popular meat, it’s scary. Consumption of chicken in Australia has slowly increased over the years and, as mentioned in my previous blog, we are eating about 45 Kg of the stuff per person each year.

So why is chicken so popular?

Ok, you’ve tried the method in “are you really hungry?“ to tell if you are really hungry or not and find that yes, at certain times of the day you are just darned hungry before time! What do you do? If you are trying to cut down, it makes it very difficult to avoid eating over your requirements.

There are a few strategies to ward off hunger between meals. Firstly you need to consider if you are getting enough exercise, water and sleep as these will all have an impact on hunger. In fact, a paper recently published suggested that early morning exercise can reduce hunger cravings during the day. Sleep has a big impact on hunger and satiety hormones.

Boosting Your Metabolism

You’ve probably heard people say “I cant lose weight because I have a slow metabolism”. There have been plenty of studies to show that people will lose weight when their calories are restricted but it is true that everyone will have a slightly different metabolic rate.

But is it inevitable that someone with a slow metabolism is destined to be stuck with it forever and find it perpetually difficult to lose weight?
